    Mushroom placement.

I have my bullseye's just off my sand bed about 22 - 24 inches down. The three of them have doubled in size in about 6 months. All my shrooms red, striped, hairy, blue, etc seem to like lower placement and indirect current.

The cure for the failing goniopora

Some of the reading I have been doing on gonipora show pic's of it thriving in refugiums. In the wild it does usually occur deeper and in turbid waters. I have had mine for just over a month now andfollowing acrylic51's advice it seems to be thriving. One thing I have found from talking with...

    Is this safe...........

Believe it or not they can carry many unwanted pests! In the ocean many inverts have built up tolerence / immunities to things that the critters in our closed systems have not! Try a quarentine tank and after 10 days introduce a couple snails and maybe an inexspensive fish. If after 15 - 20...

    flow/turnover

Flow usually measured in gal/hr on a meter inline with plumbing fixture. Tells you at what rate fluid is moving in a pipe! Turnover is how many times an hour the total volume of water in your tank is replaced. Example let's just say a 90 gallon display tank with an overflow. Everything is...

    Dripping Kalk in the Day

Kalkwasser / limewater = dripped everynight in an amount that replaces water lost to evaporation. When used properly replaces calcium and carbonate ions that are used in equal amounts by tank inhabitants. Don't mix more than you can use in say 2 to 3 days. Keep it unexposed to the air. If it...

Anyone ever tear down and redo a large tank?

Before the bed was disturbed I had planned on draining entire system, saving the water, aquascaping, then refilling with the drained out water. Then after about 48 hours doing a 50% water change and changing out all carbon. I thought if I tested and everything lookked okay I would begin re...

Anyone ever tear down and redo a large tank?

ReefkprZ That sounds like a fair description of a plenum, except In my research I have found two schools of thought. First most original Juapert designs show a bottom plate sealed in various means to allow water in and yet keep sand out. This plenum plate is placed on the bare bottom of a tank...

Anyone ever tear down and redo a large tank?

My thoughts were to put in the plenem system. Right now I have a deep sand bed only. Most of the newer articles I have read flaunt it's benefits. The Wakkikii Study showed great results and a much more uniform substrate with no discoloring. Just something I would like to try.
