    I would like to start

My advice would be to do some reading before starting. Get some books and definitely read the "New Hobbyist" section regularly here. You can even do a search on certain aspects like "cycling" Big reason is you have large tanks, which can equal large(expensive)mistakes. So you would save yourself...

Have you checked at night? That is when they usually come out to eat. If not, have you noticed any physical problems with him, e.g. like legs disintegrating or bristles falling off?

    Fish Trap??

Don't worry about making a mistake with your fish. I would bet most people on this board has made that type of mistake. Sometimes it is out of your control, like just that fish's behavior. Anyway, try a coke bottle. Cut the top off a couple of inches below the hole. Then turn it around so it...

    refugium question

I would be careful about using sand from the beach. The reason is there may be impurities there that could harm your tank. You might be better off just using store bought sand or trade from a fellow fish keeper.

    cleaning a tank

You could do the bucket thing. Or take the tank outside and put some water and vinegar in it(not much). Buy a new rag or sponge and wash the tank thoroughly. Then just rinse and let dry in the sun or towel dry(clean cotton towel). Do you know if the tank has any leaks?? I would check before...

I started with 3 emeralds and slowly got down to 1. We did not see him for about 2 months. Then one day we got a glimpse of him when we turned the lights on, WOW! His legspan is now about 3" across. We named him Monster. He doesn't bother anything in the tank. He just eats alot. You can tell...

Do you have a refugium? The macros will help with the phosphates too. And is you still have trouble, I would run a little bit of phosban to help. HTH

    clown eating bubble tip?????

Well, he is putting the ends of the tenticles in his mouth and then spitting them out. Sometimes they come off, sometimes they don't. But today it looks like the anemone lost several tips. And it is turning inward to keep its tenticles away from the clown. I don't want the clown to stress out...

    clown eating bubble tip?????

I just recently got a rost bubble tip. I have a gold strip and white strip maroon that have taken up residence in the new addition. I have noticed that the gold stripe clown is taking the bubble tips into his mouth and biting them off the anemone! Is this normal or is he hurting the anemone...

    red algae....help!!

I do leave them on alot. I was trying not to shock the fish by turning the white lights on so early. But what you're saying does make sense. I leave the blues on alot. Do you think that is it or something else? Is the time that the whites are on good or can I increase? thx

    red algae....help!!

Yes, mostly. Before I got the new lights I had just plain old lighting that came with the tank. I had the same bulb for over a year. So I think the bulb was going bad and changing spectrum. Now the new lights are more intense, more wattage. I usually turn the actinics on around 9:30am. Then...

    red algae....help!!

Ok, I just got some new PC's to go over my tank. Now I have 260 watts over my 55 gal. I know that I should not run the new lights alot since it is an upgrade in wattage. I know that I should gradually increase the time. But I am getting red algae on spots on the glass and on some rocks. Why is...
