    Lighting for 29Gal Reef

MH starts getting expensive. I'd suggest the 2 55 or 65 watt PC's. I've had luck with CSL. Tom

    CPR Hang-On Refugiums

How much water does it hold? Good question. I think it is around 3 gallons. I remember measuring it, I just don't remeber the results. Somebody probably has the formula where you take the demensions of a container and figure out the gallons. Fry

    CPR Hang-On Refugiums

I like it. I'm using their largest one on a 30 gallon tank. If you are a good DIY you might be able to come up with a larger one for less money. Overall I'm happy with it. I would suggest replacing the rio ph with another one. Tom

Any other opinions on Hang on Refugiums?

I use the largest CPR on my 30 gallon and I love it. I think it would be too small for a 120. You would need a bunch of them or you would need to build something yourself. Tom

29 Gallon work? (need your opinion)

1st a Pacu will easily outgrow a 55. They need VERY large tanks. A 29 gallon reef is possible although I would personally suggest starting with a fish only system or Fish only with Live Rock. Do this for at least a couple of months to gain expirence with salt. You shouldn't have delicate and...

Most you can raise salinity in a day?

Hey guys, I purchased a clownfish that was in water with a salinity of 1.017 and my system is around 1.0215. I took about 6 hours to acclimate him and all went well for about 10 days. The clownfish has now come down with Lympho (sp). I was talking to a friend who is extremely knowledgeable...

Josh, Did your fan come built in to the hood? There web page makes it sound like the fan is seperate. Also what type of bulbs are you using? Do you have the 10,000 day light? Does anyone know how that looks, is it similar to a MH 10k bulb? Thanks Fish fry

    BenTrue...and other PC users

Thanks for all the info so far. For those with fans, is anyone using a pre-built hood? I'm wondering what manufacturer makes the quietest fans. The ones on my old tank were pretty loud, which led me to keep the fan off, which led to the ballast burning out sooner than normal. Thanks Tom

Hey I just saw another post of yours about lighting. I'm curious with your set up what type of corals are you keeping? Also how loud is your cooling fan? I have a 30 gallon and I'm interested in upgrading the lights. I don't want to spend the $ for MH. I've used PC's before on a 29 gallon and...

How often does your heater fail to work?

Occasionally I've had problems with my heaters. I only use Ebo Jager. I usually have it set for mid-upper 70's. The other day it was a particularly cold morning so I decided to check my tank's temperature before I went to work. Sure enough it was around 72. The heater was off so I can't say...

    does lr need light ?

As mentioned the lighting will help, doesn't need to be bright though a FO works fine for macro algae. As far as critters going through the pumps. If possible try to have the sump higher than the tank. This way you can use gravity to move the water from the sump into the main tank. They sell...

    Have some questions about caulerpa?

If you had it hooked up to the main tank it would help to filter and purify the water. It will also help to reduce other types of algae. As far as lighting goes I've heard that 24/7 works to keep it from going sexual. Some people also light it opposite their main tank to help balance the pH...

Cool thanks for the picture. I removed one from my tank the other day, and i have just noticed another one. How quickly do they reproduce? If I get this last one out will I have to worry about new ones. Also how large do they get. The two that I have are about a 1/4 inch. Later Fish Fry

    Southdown makes water Cloudy!!

I'm not sure about the fish health, although I would guess that it can't be good. Getting into their gills, stressing them out. I just added some SD to a new tank it was about 4-6 days before it really cleared. If you add some mechanical filtration, or floss it will speed up the process. HTH...

3 triggers does seem exessive. Do they all get along? Less fish would lower the nitrates. Sometimes the filter media can cause an increase in nitrates as well. HTH Fsh Fry
