New nano wanted - which one?

Hi all, I am going to setup a nano in my office and I'm trying to decide between a JBJ Nano-Cube and a Current USA Aquapod. I want to make it a reef system, so either model will have MH lighting. Anyone have a preference as to which brand is better? My son has a 12g Aquapod in his room...

    Emptying Skimmer Collection Cup

My Coralife 220 has a drain hole on the bottom of the cup... At least I think that's what it's for. Would it be bad to just leave a hose connected to it and let it drain in to a bucket? Is it important to actually wash out the cup?

    Light timer

Thanks for the info. I picked up 2 Intermatic heavy duty digital outdoor timers today from HD. Figured the outdoor ones would be better for a wet environment. So far they seem to be working. Anyone wanna buy a gently used Coralife mechanical timer? A little old lady only drove it back and...

    Light timer

Hi all, My Coralife Power Center is not working too well. The timer is not reliably switching on/off the different color outlets. Has anyone else had this problem? Can you recommend a better timer? I have 3 power cords on my main tank light for daylight, actinic blue, and moon glow LED's...

    I Got My Tank Today!!!!

If you can't find non-pressure treated 4 x 4's (IMHO, I wouldn't use them indoors due to some of the nasty stuff they put in the wood), you can always screw n' glue 2 x 4's together. For lateral strength, (2) 2 x 4's with 1/2 plywood in the middle would be much stronger than a 4 x 4. Norm and...

    What is this brown stuff?

Hi, What is this brown stuff forming on my sand and live rock, and is it normal in a tank that is cycling? Should I be concerned, or do anything about it? No livestock yet. I used a raw shrimp to kick off cycling. I removed it a few days ago. Amonia is back to 0. Nitrate is about 8...

    I Got My Tank Today!!!!

LOL... Yeah, they are heavy. I have almost the same tank. Mine has the overflow boxes in the corners. I had to have my brother-in-law help me move it downstairs. My wife couldn't even lift one end of it. I got it on the stand by myself by putting one end up on it, then grunting the other...

    stand doors

Might be a little late, but here are the doors and stand I made myself. The doors are 1x6 solid oak, cut to size, then chamfered on all 4 sides. I also cut a rabbit opposite the hinge side so they close flush with the face frame. I used a simple X brace on the back to hold the panels...

    Water prep and storage

Hi, Do you leave the pump running for circulation? If so, does it heat up your water too much? I left a utility pump running in my storage bin for 48 hours and the water temp got to over 100 deg F!
