    Feeding a Small Clam?

For what I've read...... a clam is able to sustain itself through its' mantle it's entire life ie that's why it has all the brilliant colors. Or there would be no wild giant clams. I understand the little critters that make up the mantle also ingest nitrates. fwiw tvan

    Temperature ????????

fpanther.....not enough information. reef temperature normally ranges from high seventies to mid to upper eighties. Consistency is not the norm on a reef flat. variance is. fpanter your answer lies in the critters and coral in your tank, and where they are from. Research my brother. Tvan

    Coral catshark

I had a 265 .... 2 coral cats.... a japanese wobie. 1hp chiller 30gallon fuge . 20 gallon sump. 4" sandbed. Watching the cats swim reminded me of caged Tigers. So I built a 400 gallon plywood tank....In an outside greenhouse. Charlie took that out as well. Now I have a 20gallon coral garden...

    Coral catshark

Yes there are right answers always. I have kept sharks and killed sharks........ I say killed because 2 died in my care through hurricane Charley(no power for three weeks, summertime, Florida ). One survived. These beautiful creatures should not be kept in cages IMHO. A caged water...

    Sponges Deadly?

Anything that dies in your tank can cause an ammonia spike and be harmful to tank. Therefor if it dies remove it as quickly as possible. Most (live)sponges enter our tanks in live rock. And filter our water. Other types sold require special care....ie they clog with detritus and need low...

    Pics of my new buddies...

Live rock does very little for nitrates and can become just as clogged as bio balls and just as ineffective. Skimmer and a way to remove solid wastes before they degrade(filter felt). Tom

    coral banded shark

mosley, 1000 gh is a bit steep, 10X per hour is fine for a reef. Protein Skimmer bigger the better. With sharks more filtration. Your tank size is going to end up stressing your shark(slow death). And coral cats do swim, and need room, and jump! Spend the money now or bury the shark...

    sharks....so confused....

Turn over rate is not a big issue. A skimmer will take care of O2. A sump with filter felt is a plus (reuseable) one that degases a trickle type filter. Don't over feed and you don't have a left over problem. I you want tank mates don't get the shark. I have a 265 ..25"X25"X96" with only a...

Cartman101, If you put the pond outside HEAT is going to be a factor. I know I live south of you. I have two coral cats and a wobie in a 265. It's not big enough IMHO(I Have had them for two years). GO biggger now or pay later. I am. Tom

    Filtration for a Bamboo

    A eel question/shark question

Catman101, Your Bioload will overwhelm the 55 long before Christmas. O2 levels will be hard to maintain. I the "big tank" falls through you'll have a lot of dead fish. Please reconsider Thanks Tom

    New Shark tank

Throw the live rock in your sump. Build caves or somthing the animals can hide under during lighted hours(catsharks and wobbies tend to be creatures of the night). The more swimming room for these animals the better. Also cover your tank sharks like to jump. HTH Tom

    bio balls or filter ?

Bio balls are just plastic and work the same as live rock(bacteria farm hence the term bio). If you let them clog up with larger particals of matter they lose their fuctionality. Live rock how ever has other life forms besides bacteria(sponges clams fan worms) that also help reduce nitrates...
