I should know the answer, but I'm going to ask....

My new 200 has been up and running for 10 days now. When set up we used new water, some new sand and alot of established sand, some new LR and I've been adding LR from my current tank (125). What has happened today is, looks like a little diatom bloom.....I'm assuming this is to be expected...

    Red Algae Problem!

Use only R/O water, get a phosphate sponge in put it in your sump. PUll out any rocks that have the red stuff on them, scrub them off and put back in tank. Catch it before it gets out of hand. Check your nitrates, that is often a culprit.

Advice please - moving to new tank.

I'm in the process of moving from a 125 to a 200 right now. I used all new water, but put in sand out of an established system, 100 lbs of new LR, but keep adding a piece or two of my old LR over and I keep putting in more and more of the sand from my old tank. Tomorrow I'm going to add water...

Here we go !!! 200 underway

The waiting is going to kill me, better that than kill the fish. I think next week I'll start adding some rock from my existing tank into the new one.

Here we go !!! 200 underway

Updated pictures. This is 100 lbs of new rock. Lots of new sand, but also lots of sand out of my existing tank that I added to this. I have 150 lbs of beautiful coraline covered rock that has been in my 125 for 5 years and I'll slowly be adding that to this tank over the next few weeks.

    New 200 rr, getting ready

It'll be reef. Right now I have alot of corals, but not many in the SPS family as I only have PC's on the 125. But the lights for the 200 gallon is a 72" MH with 3 250 HQ bulbs. I'm also going to keep the PC's going on it also. I bought this tank almost a year ago, and have been picking up...

    New 200 rr, getting ready

I have been working on my list of inhabitants for this tank, and it's funny, but I'd rather have smaller and more rather than larger and fewer. The occupants from my 125 that will be moving over to their new digs included: flame angel, 2 anthias (1 male, 1 female), 2 yellow tailed damsels...

I tried the pulsing type a couple of times and never had any luck, just seemed to melt away, and another time I think my flame angel was doing it in.

    gorgonians

I've had a brown gorgorian for almost 5 years, and frankly, I never feed it. It started out with 3 stalks and now has about a dozen at least, so I guess what I'm saying is that it doesn't seem difficult to have at all.

    Opihura, starfish questions

The one I have a beleive is some sort of brittle star. Large central disk, about the size of a half dollar, long skinny legs, and it's black and white. If I could find it I'd take a picture, but every once in a while if I move something for cleaning it goes scrambling away.
