Starting off in thw wonderful world of salt water..

It measures the salinity in the water. You could use a hydrometer, but they are not always accurate.

    Tank size for tangs?????

Welcome. Most tangs will require a minimum of 6 feet of swimming room. I've ready where you can have yellow tangs in smaller tanks.

    Firefish problem...

If he is doing good when you go back to the store, I don't see any reason you shouldn't get him. Just make sure you have a lid on your tank because you've already seen how they like to jump.

    ocean collecting

I don't usually talk to Auburn fans either, lol Thanks for the info AUfishman! St. Joe Bay is on the Panhandle. It is Southwest of Tallahassee. I have caught seahorses, pipefish, crabs and damsels in the sargassum while at Mexico Beach. I may try to snorkel some at the bay this summer.

    Vacation Suggestions for Georgia?

You could always find a Florida beach to visit. The gulf coast is only a few hours away from columbus. Savanah would be a nice drive from there. Atlanta isn't far and you could do the Georgia Aquarium and the Atlanta Zoo. Maybe take in a Braves game if they are in town.

    Skimmer break in period

I actually bought the coralife skimmer, but I sent it back. I have a 46 gallon tank and the powerhead for it was huge and so was the bubble difuser. It took up a lot of room in my tank and was aestheticly unpleasing. The two peices of equipment were each close to the size of a softball...

I just put in an Aqua C remora yesterday. It is going to replace my modified skilter. Hopefully the break in period won't be too long.

    Skimmer break in period

I understand that a skimmer has a break in period, but what actually happens during that period? Why does it not start skimming from the start? I've never really seen an answer to this. Can y'all help? Thanks.

    LFS LR question

As long as they have already cured it and you don't leave it out of the water for very long at all, You should be alright just to toss it in. I would get a rubbermaid container with some saltwater in it to transport the rock home. The die off on the rock is what causes the ammonia and you...

Need Help!!! Crushed Coral And Sand Question

I don't think it will hurt anything, but like Tim said, over time the CC will migrate to the top. Then you might not get the "look" that you are wanting. I guess it also depends on how deep you want your sandbed. A lot of people will add base sand and then add live sand to the top to seed it.

Need Help!!! Crushed Coral And Sand Question

If you have the very finely crushed coral, you should be ok. If you have the stuff that is dime size (like I have) then your nitrates will be higher because all the detrius material gets caught up in it and you cleaning crew cant access it real well.

whats a first good peaceful fish

My clarki wasn't exactly peaceful. He was a bully among his other peaceful tankmates. He killed couple of my fish over the time that I had him. I gave him to my brother, who has a 120, and he started attacking his maroon clown that was twice his size. He beat him up pretty good and had to be...
