    having trouble maintaining my temperature.

Originally posted by Pontius the heater is 200 watts and cost $40. I don't think a better heater is needed. That heater isn't enough for your tank size. The general rule of thumb I've always heard is 5 watts/gallon. I've got 2 - 150watt heaters in my 55.

    Lighting on my 55g

ReefNut, I have the same lighting, probably the same fixture, on my 55. Both Viper and Thomas thought it would be enough for my BTA. https://www.saltwaterfish.com/vb/show...hreadid=154587 Do you disagree, or do different anemones require different lighting? Thanks!

    tang & anemone?

Has anyone ever heard of a yellow tang nipping at or picking on an anemone? My rose bubble tip anemone arrived last Friday (3/11). I made sure to temp acclimate then drip acclimate (2 hours). On Sunday (3/13) I purchased a yellow tang and torch coral locally. The first day or two I saw the...

    Lighting Question for my 75gal

How many inches high is your 75 gallon tank? The depth that the light has to penetrate to reach the bottom is what really matters. I'm thinking a 75 is the same height as a 55, but I could be wrong.

    what do you add?

What, if anything, does everyone add to supplement their reef tank? This question is assuming you don't need to add calcium for low calcium levels, etc. Do you regularly add trace elements? If so, is there a more reputable brand? All I have now is a torch coral, but I plan to get more soft...

    Lighting Question. Help!!

I'm not familiar with the product. My best guess would be that the red packaging is a red tinted bulb. Is your bulb yellow?

    Lighting Question. Help!!

That is a general rule a lot of people use. The two biggest factors are probably the depth of the tank and what corals you'd like to keep. Hard corals and clams most likely need MH, whereas soft corals can be kept with PCs.

    Fluval filter pads

Originally posted by MAdNESS I have carbon, nitrate sponge, and pre-filter in the chambers, should they be rinsed once a month as well? It is debated a lot, but most "experts" say that carbon is only truely effective for the first 24 hours or so it is in the tank. I would suggest changing it...

    Introducing new fish to tank

I read somewhere, The Conscientious Marine Aquarist (sp?) I believe, that only 7% of hobbyists have and use a quarantine tank. Ideally, we'd all have one, but obviously a majority don't. If you have a QT, you would drip acclimate to your QT, then drip acclimate to your main tank when moving him...
