    Anyone Reduced Nitrates Effectively?

i agree that you need to do water changes and get the water checked. I also think a skimmer would help. if you have media in your filter, you may want to rinse that with your dirty salt water during a water change, filters are nitrate & ammonia growers. Keep us informed in your progress. ;)

    What are mysis shrimp?

just adding on to the sharks answer, The mysis shrimp is larger, which is more filling for your bigger fish. I get it frozen at my LFS. I found that new additions to the tank took to the mysis quicker than regular brine shrimp. :)

Anybody tried a product called Nitrex?

water change, water change is what keeps the nitrates, etc. down. you can try adding nitrate sponge which is an aggregate that you put in a sack in your filter. it lasts 3-6 months and works pretty well. I use it for that just in case increase in nitrates.

in regards to bubbles, i run a seaclone skimmer and I had a bunch of bubbles. I found it was because i was putting in stress coat. I quit using that, ran the skimmer on low for a few weeks so I wasn't dumping the cup constantly and the bubbles eventually dsappeared. Runs like a champ now. ;)

is this as big as it sounds

the savings ($) for our tank, because of the low calcium in the water we use would save us approx $26 per month. we have to use a lot at water change to get the new water at 450, then the 1 tbsp per week for what the corals are absorbing. ;)
