    Dead Zoos????

I've had similar experience. Some zoos take up to a week if not a little longer to fully open up after shipment. At least that was my experience. Give them a week or so and see what happens.

    wave boxes

On the sight it states with 1 corner unit in a 55gal it is low to medium flow. So unless you are planning on SPS or high flow corals, you could probably just get 1. Personally I would get 2 for even flow throughout the tank. That way you don't get ANY dead spots.

    wave boxes

I have 2 of the center units (Wave2K) in my 180. Excellent. The guy who invented them and makes them is extremely helpfull if you have any issues. Personnaly I have had to do maint on one, but they do an excellent job of flow and water movement. I no longer have to have any annoying power...

    Ready for fish?

Like you said, wait on the hippo until the tank has been established for awhile. They are very prone to disease and stress. As far as inverts, snails, snails, and more snails. Nassarius snails are good, turbos are good. Get a few hermits, don't mix the scarlet and blue leg...they will fight...

    Upgrading tank: all new water?

When I m oved everything from my 75 to my 180 I used some of the water all of the LR and got rid of the crushed coral. I don't see a need in using all new water. You might see some sort of a cycle.

    Ready for fish?

Looks good so far. You could start to add fish if you'd like. I would go with some inverts first and maybe 1 or 2 small fish. Don't shock your system by adding a lot at once. Space the additions out.

    Ready for fish?

Inverts would be a good start as you should start seeing some diatom outbreaks soon. Did you see any spike in your amonia during your cycle? How much LR do you have? What size tank? Just some questions to see where you are at with your cycle.

    Ro System Ordered!!!!!!

I'm in the same boat as you reeferDC! I have some algae growth in my tank and have my 6 stage RO/DI coming on Monday. I was wondering how quick to change the water? I plan on doing about a 25% water change and then space it out over a month or so. Is this correct?? I paid $145 with...

What to Do With Loose Zoos

Not a problem. I've had lots of compliments on my kids while eating out and stuff, but little do people know....They are crazy at home. You gotta love them!!!

What to Do With Loose Zoos

My 3 smallest usually go with me. I think we might get waited on faster because of the "fear factor" of a 2, 3 and 5 year old loose in the store I guess my LFS doesn't get scared with a 1, 3, 5, 6, 8, and 10 year old. OH well

    Nice to meet you all

Do I have to use Live Sand? I have read if it gets too deep, you have problems...I guess a thin layer will do...Have to get some pics up and running here as soon as I figure out how.. I think you are refering to a deep sand bed usually 4" or more. If that is the route you want to go, they are...

    PVC vs vinyl tubing

I used vinyl tubing for the ease of construction and cleaning. But pvc is good too. As far as quietness, I think they are about the same. I have pvc from my return pump to the tank and the vinyl from my overflows back to the sump. I don't get much noise. Just the hum of the pump.

    Nice to meet you all

You want to keep your tank at a steady temp, usually 78-82. As far as powerheads, it depends on how much flow you need in the tank. If you have different corals you need more flow for some than others. If you only have fish then you don't need more than 2 I would think. Actually depending...

    What is with EVERYONE???

Sometimes, more knowledgeable hobbyists just get frustrated because they see the same mistakes over and over, and sometime the same person makes the same mistakes over and over even after having been well-advised--which can be very frustrating to those of us who seriously value marine creatures...

    What type of wrasse??

I totally agree oceana. My sixline shows absolutely no agression to the other 15 tank mates (which happen to include 5 damsels). Infact he just minds his own business crusing the tank. I've never heard of them being agressive, but in this hobby there are always differences. I guess I got lucky.

    fish and tanks

My thought would be because the LFS expects quick sales. It's hard enough to catch a fish in a small tank with a little bit of LR. Try catching one in a larger tank...
