    If it is a regular output ballast..you can use it..but you should get bulbs specifically for marine aquaria use...normal "shop" lights are a lower kelvin and usually encompass the reds of the sprectrum...

    If you dont use RO/DI water, start...keep all of your filtration equipment clean...set a refuge up and try keeping some macro algae in it...ensure your light bulbs are not aged and have shifted into the yellow end of the ole spectrum...

    The sand will settle...probably not in a day or two as previously mentioned...but it will settle. It wont effect the cycling process...as you will see, your fish will often times kick little dust storms up...well at least my triggers do..

    Try catching them in the dark...after the lights have been off for 2-3 hours...get a flashlight and net...you gotta be quick, but I found the light either blinds them or disorientates them...worked for me taking two damsels out.

    The lower "K" rating of the lighting usually found in home improvement stores is in the wider of the spectrums...covering everything up into the yellows and reds...that end promotes algae growth.

    Most start the actinics about an hour before the big lights...leave them all on for about 8-10 hours...shut the big lights off...leave the actinics on for an hour after...then I suppose switch the moons on...

    Have the two tanks plumbed to a single sump with one pump supplying both..."T" it off and run a return to each pump with valves to regulate flow...with the supply to the sump "T" them in together.
