    Sand Bed Changing????

I am seeing an increase in hundreds of small bubbles just below the surface of my sand bed. A few of them are visible on top of the sand bed. The sand bed visible against the front glass of the tank is changing to a brown or dark orange color. The surface of the sand is slightly brown in...

    Instant Ocean...little white specs

I usually try to let my "replacement" water change water aerate with an airstone for about 24 hrs. before I do the water change. I also stir the water and check the specific gravity during this time, while the salt continues to dissovle, and adjust it to be equal to the same level as the main...

SeaChem De-Nitrate - Does it work? Any Experiences?

Seems like I remember reading something about the flow rate, of the water going through the "de-nitrate", needing to be below 50 gallons per hour to be effective. That may be on the side of the container or I may be wrong. Just something to check. I thought I read that when I was thinking...

    Minimum Ligthing for Live Rock?

Thanks for the quick reply Stacy T. I plan on adding "cured" live rock from lfs. If I keep the "cured" rock wet bringing it home I hope this will the keep the "die off" to a minimum. I just want to avoid as many mistakes as possible. Thanks Again:)

    Hospital Tank?

I plan on setting up a hospital/quarantine tank. I am thinking of basic 10-20 gallon tank. Hood with light. PVC pipes for cover. Hang on power filter. Can I just run the power filter on my main tank to keep it "loaded" with needed bacteria until I need to use it? When I need to use this...

    Minimum Ligthing for Live Rock?

I would like to start adding live rock to my tank. Right now I only have the basic lighting that came with it. (2) - 18" - 15watt fluorescent bulbs. ?1.) Will this basic lighting keep the "live" rock alive enough to start the benefits of filtering and seeding the sand bed with critters...

    Power Head Problems

I too recently added a aqua clear 301 powerhead with the quick filter attachment. I made sure the powerhead was completley submerged. When I first started it up it blew micro bubbles. I could see some attached to the outside of the quick filter. After about 30 minutes this gradually went...

Adding LR after cycling the tank

Placing plastic over the sand while your add the water will help keep the sand bed from being stirred up as much. This will speed up the time it takes for everything to settle and clear up afterwards. :)

    water change question

With your tank being up for 22 months the biological filtering is probably well established and therefore converted the ammonia caused by the dead fish to be converted to nitrites and then to nitrates at a quicker rate. From what I have read on this bb if you want to reduce bad levels in you...

    Tanks without skimmers - LOOK!!

Hello disdominican. I am new to this too. I just set my tank up on 6/23. I have started out without a protien skimmer because I started with a fish only tank and the damsels that I started with are pretty hardy fish. I contiually monitor my water parameters and do water changes every 2 weeks...

    Powerhead Recommendations??

I am going to add a powerhead to my tank for extra circulation. Has anyone used the Power Sweep models? If so how well do they seem to work? I've also thought about the Aqua Clear models with the quick filter attachments to help polish the water. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks:)

    Seeding a dsb with critters

Thanks for the feedback. I was wanting to get some opions and advice on this matter before trying it. I thought that this would be the best way to do it now that I already have fish and inverts in the tank. Thanks Again:D

    Turbo died, should I remove?

I had a very similar thing happen to one of my Turbo Snails. After it died I was concerned about a possible ammonia spike. I removed the dead snail and boiled it and removed it from the shell. I cut up four small pieces to feed the hermit crabs with and then placed the empty shell in my tank...

    Seeding a dsb with critters

What are the chances that I could successfully seed my dsb with "critters", from active live sand or live rock, while fish and inverts have been added first? All replys appreciated. Thanks:D

    Nitrate Removers???

Thanks again fshhub. I may gradually raise the salinity it is at 1.022 right now. Will raising gradually to 1.025 stress the fish too much? Fritzwilly:D
