Hey bigred. Got that 70 setup last night. Should have lighting in a couple of days. 2X96 watt PC. It's coming along. I'll post some pics when I get done.

    Power Filters on a Reef

I'm currently setting up my 70 gallon soon to be reef. All I'm going to try to use is LR/LS, powerheads, and a good skimmer. If the tank cycles with just that, and all levels are good, then I'll slowly move the contents of my 37 over.

    Berlin Turbo VS. Prizm Pro

I'm not going to do a sump at this time. Maybe later on. For know I'd just like to know if anyone has any opinions on the new Prizm. The guy at the LFS changed his berlin on his own tank to the new Prizm. So far he's been happy, but I know they get incentives to sell new products. I do have the...

    Berlin Turbo VS. Prizm Pro

I'm looking to purchase a new skimmer that will be going on a 70 gallon reef. I plan on setting up this tank very slowly. I'll be adding 200lbs LS, and 100 lbs. LR. I'll have 2 maxijet 600 powerheads for circulation. I'm undecided as to what/if filter I'll be using. Any one heard anything about...

    OT: What Would You Do?

Well lets see. My powder brown tang with ich $30. Refracto to do hypo with overnight shipping $120. Hospital tank setup $40. New cost for tang $190. All that then he didn't make it through hypo.

    do fish travel well? moving

You may need to search a little for a LFS that will bag and ship for you. Luckily there is one a couple of hrs from where I live that ships on a regular basis. It's not cheap, but they add O2 to the bags, place in stirofoam cooler, and add a heat source. I'm sure if you call around you will find...

Agressive fish for a 30 gallon

I consider the flame hawk to be aggressive. He will do a number on most any inverts. You could get a very small dwarf lion. I've seen them at the LFS that are about an inch. I don't think it would bother the wrasse at that size. I've known others that have kept the sixline and a dwarf lion...

    New Tank

I agree on the filter. I have had very good luck with the emperors. I see that the lighting you have is a 175 watt MH. On a 20 gallon I would be concerned about the evaporation and heat that this can generate. I would look to add a supplimental lighting, and run the MH for just a couple of hrs...

    O'my god!

I was talking with a fellow reefer in the LFS and he says he keeps a pair of breeders in his sump/refugium. When they release the babies they end up filtering into the display and become a source of food. He said his breed about every 2-4 weeks.

Why not tangs in a 55??

I wouldn't recommend keeping them in less than a 75 for the life of the fish. They do grow a bit on the slow side. I think anyone that has say a 55 for a few years will end up upgrading. If you stay in the hobby long enough I'm sure you'll want a bigger tank. My goal is another 240 and 500 by...

    reef tank?

Fish only is simple. Just fish no LR or corals. FOWLR is just that. Fish with LR, and no corals. Reef can have fish, but not always, and will have some corals. Usually most people start with FOWLR, and then eventually will start adding some type of coral, thus becoming a reef.

    70 gallon setup?

I'll still have the 37 setup to cure any new LR before adding that to the new tank. After I move the fish and LR from my 37 I will wait to make sure the water is fine before I move my corals.

    a few tips/reminders

I was leaving for a fishing trip early Friday, and thought I would check on my fish before leaving so I turned on the lights. This was at 1:30 A.M. I normally turn take lights on at 8 in the morning. My fairy wrasse, maroon, and tang looked really strange. Wrasse colors didn't look good, maroon...

    70 gallon setup?

Today I picked up a 70 gallon tall tank. What I wish to do is transfer the fish, and LR from my 37, about 55lbs, and my corals from my 80. I'll probably add about another 20lbs LR or so. The tank is 24" high, 18" deep, and 36" long. I'll have about 6" DSB so actual depth will be about 18". I'm...

    Will this work?

You should use caution when mixing a puffer and lion. Puffers tend to nip at the lions fins. I keep mine in 2 seperate tanks for this reason.

    Beginner start-up info

The filter that you have on a 10 gallon probably isn't big enough to use on a saltwater tank. A skimmer removes alot of the waste from the water before it has time to break down into ammonia. There are those here that do not use any other means of filtration other than LR, and a skimmer. I think...

    Beginner start-up info

Inverts are species such as shrimp, clams, and starfish. Some people set these up with no fish. Angel fish are prone to nip at and eat certain corals. Not all angels do this, but its best not to take the chance. The equipment that you will need for a salt tank are filter, skimmer, powerhead (for...

No offense, but I don't really like to give out my email address. Live Rock LR is rock that comes from the ocean. It helps with water filtration. Also alot of times it will have other life that will grow on the rock such as algae. Live Sand LS is sand that comes from the ocean. It contains...
