My Thinkpad did the same thing over the Holidays. I reloaded windows and ended up with the same results. Turned out the HD had gone bad. You may want to remove the drive and just order an equlivent one from on of the online retailers. they are quite easy to change and arn't to expensive...

    Well Water and RO/DI system

I've had one on well water in NJ and here in VA without any noticeable issues. The water in NJ tested way higher then it does here and after going through the Ro/di its just about the same. If i remember correcty I was ending up with around a 5 ppm reading in NJ and now 0 ppm here in VA.

Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Tap Water Filter (is it anygood)

I've tried one for a while when i had my 29 gal tank, But with the well water I had in NJ I was going through the filters too quickly. A RO/DI unit ended up being cheeper for the long term. Now with a 38 and 90 gal it wouldn't be too practical even though my water quality her in VA is way better...

Considering A sump... I have no clue, please help

Another thing to consider, will the sump handle to extra water from roughly 15 feet of return line plus the overflow of the tank in the event of a power outage. You may want to think about a larger sump.

    Maxi jet users

Another option is to superglue the PH to one of those clear plastic wreath hangers that are sold in craft shops. They carry and adjustable one that is quite long. You can hang it off of the lip of the tank and adjust the PH to what every depth you would like it at, plus they are quite cheap.

ODYSSEA 48" 260W Aquarium Power Compact Light+ Lunar

You may want to open it up and remove the fan. you should be able to get a replacement from Radio Shack. I would think that they are the same fans used in computer cases.
