    tank stand

LOL Yes, Home Depot or Lowes should be able to point you in the right direction. Tell their paint people what you're trying to do. Since this is the stand we're talking about, almost any waterproof finish will work, it all depends on what kind of "look" you're after. Once you get their advice...

    Trouble posting?

I think that since you are coming in from England, your ISP or one of the countless relay sites between you and the SWF.com server in Miami is probably experiencing technical difficulties. Not much you can do till the machine causing this is fixed. Hang in there, it usually is reported and...

    tank stand

Ivan, I don't think it's the type of wood as much as it's the finish you use on the wood. For my stand I used aromatic cedar and maple finished with about 6 coats of lacquer. An alternative finish that is fairly popular is Spar Varnish. To finish the inside of the stand I used an anti-mold...

Overflow rate for a 55 gallon reef?

Yes, all "restriction" to a pump should be made on the return line rather than the input line. Good luck, Paul

    Circulation plans, input welcome

By the way guy, it's all your fault that I decided to rebuild the manifold! One of your posts was about valves and flow rates etc. I had built the manifold using 3/4" gate valves feeding from a 1.5" input line. After reading your posts, I decided that, since there was no need for "fine control"...

LOL Broomer, you crack me up dude! Just yesterday I was trying to help some guy with angles for a Hex hood and got confused. Thanks for the input! I just finished "re-engineering" my manifold for the closed loop so the pics I had of the old one are outdated already and the tank's never even had...

    How hard is it to...

Depends on how complex a tank and setup you're going for. Basic woodworking skills and tools are all you need if you're going to build a wood/glass tank. There are plans for a 140 gallon "grow out" tank on www.garf.org to give you some ideas. Javatech has a beautiful DIY tank with pics...

    Circulation plans, input welcome

Okay, glass is in now doing the final stages of "in-tank" plumbing and wanted to run my plans past y'all for critique. I've currently got one 1.5 inch overflow and I'm planning on pushing about 1,250 gallons per hour through the sump. Do you think 1.5" will feed that volumn? I've got a closed...

How to preserve D.I.Y Garlic Extract and save tons of money in the long run

Far from an expert here but I'm sure Beth will jump in if I'm too far off. Why bother? A whole Garlic is what $1.00, one clove for about 20 cents? heck, grind it up, soak it up, use it for a day or two and start over. Just my .02, Paul

I want a large fo tank for angles

    Who has the biggest?

Novice150 aka Joe has a 1650 gallon tank currently being cycled in preparation for his sharks. I talk to him several times a week and I assure 1650 gallons, while maybe not the biggest, is certainly a handful LOL especially when you add a new little baby boy to the equation! Congrats again Joe...

    Hypo and Progress

but you could afford a $30 mantis shrimp and setting up another species tank for it? As I said on one of your many other posts regarding this problem, it's a question of priorities. Good luck to you and your livestock. Paul

    anyone build hex canopy

Yeah that's what I meant LOL thanks Glazer, I knew that 360 degrees was our goal, just a case of trying to figure out how many sides ;) 30 degrees on each end of the piece yields that silly 60 degrees I was looking for! Good luck on the hood! Later, Paul

    anyone build hex canopy

OMG MATH QUESTION RUN HIDE LOL I'm gonna vote for the 60 degree advice, by my calculations 6 sides x 60 degrees = 360 degrees whereas, if this was an octagon tank it would be 45 degrees 8 sides x 45 degrees = 360 degrees ... oh shoot now I'm confused, a hex tank does have 8 sides right? damn...

    RO water

Never used it but if they say it's RO then I'd say that it probably is, Culligan is too large a company to blantantly lie about something like that. That being said, the quality of the RO may be questionably, I'd buy a jug, test it and make your own conclusion. Just my thoughts, Paul

Well now it's really begun ...

... up until this moment all the work on the tank and stand and sump and and and and probably could have been undone or corrected. I just screwed up the courage to take the first "undoable" step finally, installed the glass! Wooooo hooooo I may have a tank up and running by Christmas, if not...
