why should i use ro water vs tap?

I don't know how it will be in your area, but when we set up our tank we used tap water. The amounts of algae we had to fight for months was sickening. I went to a great lfs and he explained the benefits of R.O. water to me and didn't even try to sell me his equipment but instead showed me a...

    Background__Yes or No?

I didn't read the entire thread, but I will say that I did add a background to ours. It is one of the kind you attach to the back. Now i don't even get to see it as the rock and corraline growth has completely hidden it.

    microscopic pic

Someone blew a dandelion into your tank? I hope it is the larval stage of featherdusters and not hydroids as that could be bad for your horses.

urchin for my reef - suggestions?

I really enjoy the ones I have. I have a white pincushion and 2 pencil as well as 2 hitchiker urchins. I highly recommend them. If you are worried about things being knocked over the pencils, which are housed in my smaller tanks never seem to knock things over.

How do you support Amphipod populations

A lot of people use refugiums. It took me a while, but I bought a small hang on back refugium, got some chateo from a local reefer, and let it go. I now have a decent population in my tank as well as my fuge. I have a target mandarin, and after the research I did I found I really needed a...

    best cleaning crew?

I agree with hermits, and our pistol shrimp does a great job of getting any meaty leftovers for himself.

    New Mantis :)

Renogaw, remember me telling you in p.m. that I wanted one for our 10 gallon tank. Well, today I was quite lucky and came across a N. Wennarae, which is what I told you I would probably end up with. Someone sent one to our LFS in place of a pistol shrimp and I walked out of there with a new...

    How aggressive are damsels??

Haha funny topic, I have a trap in our tank right now to get rid of one that has been nipping polyps and harassing the other fish forever. He is beautiful and is one of our fish that has actually been named, but the cost of corals vs. the cost of a damsel is just not worth it to us anymore.

    Sand Sifter?

I have regular nassarius snails and then I went to my lfs and they sold me some they called super nassarius snails. I have tried to do a little research on them and I think they are a Tongan species. They are much larger then the regular nassarius snails and have a bright white foot with a...

    Limpet snails

Hard to say, but if you have hermits let them feast if it is dead. It won't take long for them to pick it clean.

    urchins

I have 3 that I have bought and 2 that came as hitchikers. I have noticed I don't need to do anything for them. They scavenge the algaes and really seem to love eating the Coraline algae. I have 2 pencil urchins, 2 pincushions, and one that I think is a rock boring urchin, don't know the...
